On Thursday, 4 June the “Pariser Platz der Kulturen” (Pariser Platz of Cultures), an event created by the financial services company Allianz AG in collaboration with the Berlin Theater Festival, will present an evening devoted to Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with an introduction of Regine Lorenz, Director of the Allianz Foundation Forum. At 7:10 p.m. the actress Hanna Schygulla will read excerpts from “Im Land des Apfelbaums: Gedichte und Prosa aus den Kölner Jahren 1962/63” (In the Land of the Apple Tree: Poems and Prose from the Cologne Years), which was recently re-issued by the publisher Schirmer/Mosel. The texts collected in the book were written by Fassbinder when he was 17, living with his father and attending evening school. The reading will be followed by a discussion moderated by Knut Elstermann in which Schygulla, her fellow actor Günter Lamprecht and Juliane Maria Lorenz will take part. The “Pariser Platz der Kulturen” was established in 2001 and aims to provide insights into the work of renowned artists. The audience is also invited to take part in the discussion.
