Fassbinder in May: exhibition/theater festival/film release
On 31 May Rainer Werner Fassbinder would have turned 70, and, as is appropriate for such an anniversary, this month is seeing an especially large number of events devoted to RWF and his artistic legacy. This year’s Berlin Theater Festival, or Theatertreffen, is placing a particular emphasis on Fassbinder. Between 1 and 17 May, the festival will feature not only theater productions and film screenings of RWF’s work, but also a symposium and an evening of song with Hanna Schygulla. The influence of the author and director on contemporary art is the subject of the exhibition Fassbinder – NOW, which is running from 6 May to 23 August in Berlin’s Martin-Gropius-Bau. In addition, following its premiere on 30 April, Annekatrin Hendel’s documentary FASSBINDER is touring Germany throughout May. On Fassbinder’s birthday it will be screened in his hometown of Bad Wörishofen.
