"ERIKA RABAU – A Berliner and her Camera: Images of the Berlin International Film Festival from 1963 - 1985"

Director Samson Vicent has pored over photographer Erika Rabau’s archive of Berlinale images (numbering some 250,000 negatives) in order to curate an exhibition comprising around 300 portraits and snapshots. The diminutive, lively and bright-eyed Rabau is herself something of a celebrity, having been an integral part of the Berlin International Film Festival for no less than 36 years.

At this recently opened show, Rainer Werner Fassbinder smiles down from in between the huge buttressed columns in the museum’s atrium – alongside portraits of many other major German directors and actors from all over the world, including Mario Adorf, Peter Ustinov, Billy Wilder, Orson Welles, Wim Wenders, Romy Schneider, Claudia Cardinale, Gina Lollobrigida and Jean Marais ...

The exhibition runs until 24 March at the Museum für Kommunikation, Leipziger Straße 16, Berlin-Mitte, and is open from Tuesday to Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10.00 a.m. to 6 p.m. The show accompanies the screening of Samson Vicent’s film ERIKA RABAU – DER PUCK VON BERLIN in the Panorama section of the 58th Berlin International Film Festival. Vicent’s documentary will be screened twice more at the CineStar 7 cinema at Potsdamer Platz: on 15 February at 8 p.m. and on 17 February at 5 p.m.
