Audio versions of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s early prose and poetry on the internet
Extracts from Im Land des Apfelbaums (In the Land of the Apple Tree) available online on the website of the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin
In 2005, in order to celebrate what would have been Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s 60th birthday, his book of dramatic verse, Im Land des Apfelbaums (In the Land of the Apple Tree) was published. Edited by Juliane Lorenz and Daniel Kletke, the book marked the first time that major parts of Fassbinder’s hitherto largely unknown early texts dating from 1961-63 had been made available to the public. A small selection of texts from this carefully edited volume was launched this summer on the web pages of the cultural centre Literarisches Colloquium Berlin (LCB). On this site, leading literary critic Ulrich Janetzki recites the following eight-poem cycle including the titles:
Schauspiel — Untergang — Verbranntes Herz — Erst jetzt... — Die Zeit, frisch wie Tau — Glut — Den letzten Akt... — Zwei lieben...
There are also two short stories – Der heilige Wald (1962) and Rosa Pudding (1963) – read by Juliane Lorenz. These audio files can also be downloaded, free of charge.
This internet outing is part of the LCB’s online archive of literary recordings known as ‘Literary Port’ – a joint project with the Brandenburg Office of Literature. A 2008 Grimme Online Award was recently conferred on the Literary Port in the category Culture and Entertainment.
