“The Marriage of Maria Braun” to be seen in guest perfomances in Eastern Europe
The Münchner Kammerspiele’s theatrical production was received with enthusiasm at Moscow and Prague festivals Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s film The Marriage of Maria Braun has been adapted as a very successful play (see NEWS-listing from April 1, 2008). On October 25 and 26, the Münchner Kammerspiele gave guest performances at Moscow’s theater festival. Invited by the Stanislawski Foundation, named after the Russian theater reformer Konstantin Sergejewitsch Stanislawski (1863-1938), the actors gave two sold out performances before “a noticeably attentive audience”. Due to this enthusiastic reception, director Thomas Ostermeier considered extra performances and found two explanations for the great interest in this production: “Such a play about post-war Germany does of course have a completely different effect in Russia. [...] Also, the emphasis on building up something is witnessed by a society that has experienced similar things in the past fifteen years.” (dpa, Oct. 27, 2008) The troupe also participated in the 11th Theater Festival in German in Prague on November 2. Back in Germany, there will be performances in the Stadttheater Fürth on December 11 and 12. The piece will also be performed during the Münchner Kammerspiele’s current season.
