A Rarity on Germany’s National TV Station NDR: WOMEN IN NEW YORK
To be aired overnight from June 2 to 3, 2009
German TV station NDR’s late-night broadcast for June 2 to 3, 2009 will feature, at 12.40 AM, Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s WOMEN IN NEW YORK. Based on Clare Boothe Luce’s play, this satire is full of social criticism. RWF, who directed the play in 1976 for Hamburg’s Deutsches Schauspielhaus, restaged it for a televised recording in 1977. This jewel has not been publicly rebroadcast since its premiere on Germany’s national ARD station on June 21, 1977.
The cast (some appear in multiple roles): Ilse Bally, Christa Berndl, Ehmi Bessel, Margit Carstensen, Andrea Grosske, Heide Grübl, Irm Hermann, Anne-Marie Kuster, Eva Mattes, Adelheid Müther, Christina Prior, Doris Schade, Angela Schmid, Carola Schwarz, Barbara Sukowa, Gisela Uhlen, Sabine Wegener, Susanne Werth and Henny Zschoppe.
Michael Ballhaus is the director of photography. Peer Raben composed the music.
On June 02, 2009 at 11 PM, the NDR will feature the actor RWF in KAMIKAZE 1989.
THE MARRIAGE OF MARIA BRAUN and LILI MARLEEN are to follow on June 9 at 11 PM and on June 10, 2009 at 12.55 AM.
