Honorary Golden Bear for Hanna Schygulla
An homage in five films at the 2010 Berlinale
Hanna Schygulla and Wolfgang Kohlhaase are to be honoured for their life's work at the 60th Berlin Film Festival.
Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick commented as follows on the honours awards:
“Both Hanna Schygulla and Wolfgang Kohlhaase represent in equal measure renewal and new departures – in West and East Germany. Hanna Schygulla’s name will be forever linked with the films of Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Wolfgang Kohlhaase forged a new direction for DEFA in his first collaborative works with director Gerhard Klein.”
A selection of five films comprises the homage to Hanna Schygulla.
Firstly RWF’s classics RIO DAS MORTES, THE MARRIAGE OF MARIA BRAUN (for which Hanna Schygulla received a Silver Bear) and LILI MARLEEN will be screened.
Then follows Fatih Akin’s AUF DER ANDEREN SEITE (THE EDGE OF HEAVEN), for which she has recently received various awards.
On the evening of the TRAUMPROTOKOLLE screening, a cycle of her video works from 1976/2005 will be screened and Hanna Schygulla herself will put in an appearance with a performance of her own.
