02/08/06 Fassbinder’s costume designer Barbara Baum in an interview
For more than a decade, from 1972 until 1982, the renowned costume designer Barbara Baum worked with Fassbinder. Among other movies, she created the costumes for “Effi Briest” (1972-74), “Berlin Alexanderplatz” (1979/80), and “Lola” (1981). To this day, her name is associated internationally with her highly praised costume creations. Recently, Baum received critical acclaim for the costumes she designed for Heinrich Breloer’s movies, among them such mammoth productions as “Die Manns - ein Jahrhundertroman” (2001). The Rainer Werner Fassbinder Foundation feels deep affection and appreciation for Barbara Baum. As a consequence we will also help sponsor the catalogue that is planned in conjunction with an exhibition in honor of her work. The show is scheduled for 2007 in Frankfurt’s Filmmuseum. The (German) interview with Barbara Baum is published in the latest edition of the journal ‘Filmdienst.’ We hope that many of the visitors to our website will take the opportunity to check it out.
