Barbara Sukowa as Cassandra at Carnegie Call
On Friday March 31, 2006 at 7:30PM The Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra will perform, under the direction of its Music Director David Robertson, at New York City’s renowned Carnegie Hall. Contemporary Swiss composer Michael Jarell created a melodrama for actress and musical ensemble about the tragic heroine of Greek mythology to whom the gods gave the gift of prophecy. Cassandra is performed by actress Barbara Sukowa.
Sukowa appeared to great critical acclaim in Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s "Berlin Alexanderplatz," in Margarete von Trotta’s "Rosa Luxemburg," and Lars von Trier’s "Europe." Fassbinder recognized her talent as singer and supported it in "Lola." Since that time, the stage and film actress has also been performing as a dramatic singer. One of her interpretations to be singled out are Schönberg’s "Gurre Lieder." Sukowa, one of the mot famous German theater actresses of the 1970s and 80s, also appears regularly on American stages and in American films, most recently in Tim Robbin’s "Cradle the Rock." Since 1994, she has been living in New York, where she is married to the artist Robert Longo.
