The German Film Museum is presenting an expanded version of the exhibition Fassbinder — NOW. Film and Video Art in Berlin’s Martin-Gropius-Bau over an area of 1200 square meters from 6 May to 23 August 2015. The exhibition explores Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s way of working and illustrates the continuing relevance of his cinematic work by showing his influence on contemporary art. Original documents, script dictations, interviews and costumes by the costume designer Barbara Baum offer visitors unique insights into Fassbinder’s process. Compilations of excerpts from his films illuminate his key themes and aesthetic. Video works by contemporary artists such as Runa Islam, Jeroen de Rijke / Willem de Rooij and Ming Wong along with photographs by Jeff Wall open up new perspectives on Fassbinder’s work. In addition, interactive stations provide visitors with more detailed access to the filmmaker’s – digitized – oeuvre. The project is being realized in collaboration with the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Foundation in Berlin and funded by the Capital Cultural Fund.
