The melodrama “Fear Eats the Soul” in Stuttgart
Premiere on March 8 in the Theater der Altstadt
In 1995, what is probably one of RWF’s most well-known films among the wider public was adapted for the stage. Fear Eats the Soul tells the story of Emmi and Ali, an unlikely couple whose artlessness and honesty are both revelatory and disarming. The story is now almost forty years old and yet the central question it raises still retains its sociopolitical relevance: Does the love between an older German woman and a young Arab have any chance of being accepted as love? Stuttgart’s small Theater der Altstadt is presenting its production of the play in March, with further performances following from the middle of June onwards.
