US premiere of “In a Year with 13 Moons”

Yale Repertory Theatre – April 26 to May 18 2013

Bill Camp and Robert Woodruff have adapted the script from Fassbinder’s film while retaining the original dialog. The English translation is by Louisa Proske. Having staged over 70 plays, director Robert Woodruff is now an established member of his profession and has been teaching at the Yale School of Drama for a number of years. The school has a history stretching back to 1924, when the institute that became its forerunner was founded. Its alumni list includes a number of illustrious names, including Elia Kazan, Sigourney Weaver and Meryl Streep. The Repertory Theater is supported by Yale’s Binger Center for New Theatre and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The difficult leading role in RWF’s In a Year with 13 Moons is played by Bill Camp. He is known to the public above all as a Broadway actor, and last year played the role of Charley in Mike Nichols’ production of Death of a Salesman. He has also played many classic roles in smaller Off-Broadway theaters, as well as appearing in big Hollywood films such as PUBLIC ENEMIES (2009) and LINCOLN (2012). On stage at the Yale Rep he will now undergo the existential process of metamorphosis from Erwin into Elvira. It should be noted that advertising for the production includes the warning: “FOR MATURE AUDIENCES. Contains strong language, sexual situations, nudity, and violence.”
