Congratulations to Volker Schlöndorff, Who Turns 75

Foto rechts zu Schloendorff wird 75After the incredible new start in the movie theaters (soon to be released on DVD) of Volker Schlöndorff’s BAAL from 1969 with RWF as the lead that got such raving reviews, we want to take this opportunity to congratulate him today to his 75th birthday. We would also like to recall that his film version of Günter Grass’s Tin Drum was the first German film since World War Two to win an Oscar. Schlöndorff is indefatigably engaged in political and historic issues, and we owe it to his determination that the Babelsberg Film Studios – that were facing bankruptcy – were saved. One of his personal birthday wishes is one we share: The preservation of our historic film heritage. Like in the case of BAAL we are on the same page here and hope very much that our mutual wish-es may come true in the most comprehensive sense of the word!
