Water drops on Burning Rocks in Liège and Vienna

Innovative productions in April and May

Two interesting productions of Fassbinder’s early work Water Drops on Burning Rocks are currently running in France and Austria. The Festival Emulation in Liège has included the 2012 production by the young Belgian director Caspar Langhoff in its program. Performances are taking place from April 19–27 at 7 p.m. in the Théâtre de la Place. The production is described as follows: “The play with the strange subtitle ‘A comedy with a pseudo-tragic ending’ unfolds an inexorable mechanism, a process underscored by a biting language that strikes home with remarkable accuracy.”

On the other hand, the querssinn ensemble in Vienna, which was founded in 2008, is presenting what it describes as a “theater-music-performance” experiment. Led by director Anna Katharina Winkler, the group has adopted the motto: “Together with Fassbinder, we are crossing boundaries and searching for the coalescence of identity and a sense of home. We are experimenting with our desire. We are claiming the freedom we must perhaps in any case submit to.” – “Because it is at play that one best comes to know humanity.” (RWF)

The next performances will takes place on April 30 and May 1 at 8:15 p.m. in auditorium 1 of the PALAIS KABELWERK (Kulturelles Stadtlabor).
