Berlin flies the Fassbinder banner. Reminder of exhibition and retrospective
Until the end of August Berlin will continue to fly the Rainer Werner Fassbinder banner. Fassbinder events in the city include above all the large exhibition Fassbinder – NOW, which is running in the Martin-Gropius-Bau until 23 August. The exhibition was developed by the German Film Institute Frankfurt am Main in collaboration with the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Foundation. It features not only exhibits such as film costumes and personal objects from RWF’s estate but also works by contemporary artists such as Ming Wong and Jeff Wall that refer to Fassbinder and his oeuvre. In addition, tours are being offered at various times during which particular insights into the exhibition are provided by its curators Hans-Peter Reichmann and Anna Fricke as well as Juliane Maria Lorenz and costume designer Barbara Baum, who was recently awarded the honorary prize for “outstanding contributions to German Cinema” at the German Film Awards
To complement the exhibition Fassbinder – NOW, Berlin’s Arsenal cinema is screening one of Fassbinder’s films every Monday until 18 August. The films being screened include copies produced as part of the FILMERBE CONTENT restoration project, which are being shown for the first time during the Arsenal season. The program includes not only classics such as EFFI BRIEST and THE MARRIAGE OF MARIA BRAUN but also less often shown films such as MARTHA, FOX AND HIS FRIENDS, CHINESE ROULETTE and IN A YEAR OF 13 MOONS.
