Fassbinder‘s most performed and translated drama is once again living up to its reputation as one of his key works. This spring the play is being performed in France and in Germany at several locations. The Compagnie Le Chat Foin and its director Yann Dacosta have created an excellent production that does justice to the play’s modernity and will be staged in different theaters across the Haute-Normandie region from February 14 onwards. The production premieres on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Dieppe Scène Nationale (DSN) auditorium. Also participating in the production are Le Volcan – Scène Nationale du Havre, Le Théâtre d’Arras and L’Archipel de Granville.

February 14 will also see another production of The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant, directed by Maik Priebe, return to the stage in Halle’s Neues Theater. (The production can also be seen there on March 20 and April 28, 2013, at 8 p.m.)

A production of the play directed by Amina Gusner will also premiere at the Neue Bühne in Senftenberg on March 8. (Further performances on March 9, 11 and 16, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.). This theater in south Brandenburg was named “Theater of the Year” by German critics in 2005.

The play can also be seen in the highly successful production directed by Martin Kušej, which is still running in the Residenztheater’s Marstall theater in Munich. Kušej was awarded Germany’s prestigious Faust theater prize for his production, which was accepted for him in Erfurt in November 2012 by his leading actress Bibiana Beglau, who had previously been awarded the Kurt Meisel Prize for her interpretation of Petra von Kant. The next performances in Munich are on March 7 and 8 at 8 p.m.
