The “Fassbinder: Romantic Anarchist” retrospective, part 2
In May, New York’s Lincoln Center screened the first part of its extensive Fassbinder retrospective. Now the second part is being shown from 7 to 26 November.
The focus is above all on the filmmaker’s later works, and the selection includes not only feature films but also a number of projects made for television. While the majority of the films are being shown in 35mm, DESPAIR is being screened in its new digitally restored version.
The retrospective is also offering the opportunity to see films that are rarely shown on the big screen, including FEAR OF FEAR, THEATER IN TRANCE and I ONLY WANT YOU TO LOVE ME. The accompanying series of special screenings titled “Fassbinder and friends” includes two works directed by Wolf Gremm featuring Fassbinder in front of the camera: the science fiction film KAMIKAZE ’89 and the TV documentary RAINER WERNER FASSBINDER – LAST WORKS. The screenings on 16 and 17 November will be attended by Gremm and the producer Regina Ziegler, who will also be answering questions from the audience.
